Charles Taze Russell (1852-1916), amerikai vallási tanító és könyvkiadó, a Jehova<\/a> Tanú néven ismert vallási szervezet elődjének alapítója. Családja presbiteriánus volt, de ő már fiatalon elutasította pl. a trinitárius istenképet, és egy millerita<\/a> csoporthoz csatlakozott (Second Adventists). Egyszer nősült, gyermekük nem volt, felesége elvált tőle. Ruházati boltjai bevételéből fedezte tanítói és kiadói tevékenységét.<\/p>\n

Megalapította az International Bible Students Association-t (IBSA, hazánkban „Komoly Bibliakutatók<\/a>”), 1879-ben elkezdte kiadni folyóiratát „Sioni Őr Torony és Krisztus Jelenlétének Hírnöke” címen (Zion’s Watch Tower and Herald of Christ’s Presence). 1884-ben a William H. Conley által 1881-ben alapított Sioni Őr Torony Traktátus Társulat (Zion’s Watch Tower Tract Society) elnöke lett. – Nézeteit az „Írástanulmányok” (Scripture Studies<\/em>) hat kötetében foglalta össze (a 7. kötetet Joseph Franklin Rutherford<\/a> írta). Tagadta a háromságtant, hogy a lélek túléli a test halálát, hitt az akkoriban divatos piramidológia eszméjében, és hamisan prófétált Krisztus látható visszatérésének évéről (1914). A Tanúk „Russell Pásztor”-ként emlegetik, de nem volt felszentelt lelkész, sem teológai végzettsége.<\/p>\n
